Cat Walker is a Registered Veterinary Nurse with dual legal and mediation qualifications. She has a background in veterinary practice management including as the owner/operator of a general practice and department manager at an emergency veterinary hospital. She is a multi-disciplinary mediator, veterinary management consultant and keynote speaker at Cat Walker Mediation & Consulting Services.
Radio Vet Nurse was the first podcast in the world made for veterinary nurses and technicians. Cat created and launched the show in 2018 during the sleep-deprived haze of her first year as a mum. Her motivation to create the show was her sheer determination to stay in touch with all things veterinary nursing while on maternity leave. At the time Cat owned and managed her own general practice veterinary surgery with her then husband.
In 2020 Cat’s life took a dramatic turn. She pressed pause on Radio Vet Nurse and went into survival mode. At this stage she had two young children to care for while navigating massive upheaval and trauma. Eighteen months later she was ready to talk about what happened, and how it related to some of the bigger global issues of the current veterinary industry climate. Cat bravely shared this story while making her podcast return on the beautifully crafted Radio Vet Nurse - Interrupted mini-series.
In Interrupted Cat respectfully shared how her veterinarian (now ex) husband developed a substance use disorder which become a serious and almost fatal addiction. Cat sold their veterinary practice, moved back to South East Queensland, and became the veterinary nurse manager of an emergency hospital. Interrupted marked the start of a new era in which Radio Vet Nurse transitioned from a monthly longform interview show to a highly produced mini-series-based show taking a deep dive into significant veterinary industry issues and trends. The back catalogue of longform interviews with veterinary nurses and technicians from around the world still exists and is a valuable resource for students and those just starting out in veterinary nursing, experienced nurses and techs wanting to advance their careers, and anyone looking to reignite their passion for veterinary nursing.
In 2023 Cat became an accredited multi-disciplinary mediator and started her own mediation and veterinary consulting business, Cat Walker Mediation & Consulting Services. Together with this new endeavour she also launched The Cat Walker Hour live at conference show and the “Registered” mini-series (listen on Radio Vet Nurse podcast).
